CapFABB Meet-up

This week we attended our first CapFABB Meet-up event. It was co-hosted by Rent the Runway at American Ice Co. and was so much fun!

The outdoor picnic tables were the perfect set-up for mixing and mingling on a wonderfully not-too-hot DC summer evening.

Tammy of A Loyal Love and Jamie of High Heeled Traveler.

Among the fabulous ladies we met were Waverly of Pich and Roor and Jennifer of Comme Coco.

Here's hoping your weekend is off to a great start!

Horseradish Mushroom Twice Baked Potatoes

I've always loved potatoes but now that I'm gluten free, they are my best friends!  Sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes...I'm always looking for a new way to prepare them.  So it certainly made my day to find a recipe that combined my love of mushrooms and a little "heat" with potatoes!

Thursday's Thirst Quencher: Ginger Limeade

Now that summer is in full swing we've decided to introduce a new feature here on ATD - Thursday's Thirst Quencher's!  Our inaugural Thirst Quencher is this wonderfully refreshing Ginger Limeade.

Gluten Free Fried Salmon Cakes

Did you know that fish and pasta taste great together? That's one cooking tip from mom that I'll always remember. I had a taste for pasta (GF of course) and fish, and these fried salmon cakes (or croquettes depending on who you ask) hit the spot!

Vintage Florals

I'm generally not a fan of florals but when they're sweet and understated like this vintage dress I found in Thailand, I'm all for them!

How do you prefer your florals?

La Petite Marmoset Showroom Opening

Last week we attended La Petite Marmoset's showroom opening in Columbia Heights. As soon as we walked in, we were captivated by all of the vibrant colors and patterns.

The LPM showroom is chock-full of lovely vintage finds.  Many of the fantastic pieces have been tailored a bit to fit current trends. See more of their pieces here.

We had the pleasure of meeting Nicole of The Seventh District, Cortnie of Style Lust Pages and the hostess with the most-est Katherine of La Petite Marmoset.

Congratulations again to Ashley and Katherine!

Sweet Spikes

I love versatile pieces, and this romper is no exception. For dinner with girlfriends I opted to dress it up with a pair of spiked heels with spike and stud adornment. The addition of the blazer was perfect for the air conditioned restaurant. I must admit, this outfit made me feel a little rocker chic.

Do you have a favorite versatile piece?

ArtSee Showcase

Last week Tammy of A Loyal Love [whose style we adore!] invited us to attend the ArtSee DC showcase of artist Garth Fry at Local 16. Garth specializes in art made of paper rolled by hand. It's really quite amazing.

Not only did we meet Tammy but we met Jamie of High Heeled Traveler too!

It was a fun evening of art, laughs and meeting new people [including Kara Coleen - standing next to Cenita].
Who are some of your favorite artists?

Painting a Chevron Wall

Seeking a way to add some visual interest to our basement family room and office space, we decided the most affordable thing to do would be to paint chevron stripes on a wall!  At first I was unsure if we’d be able to complete the task with precision and accuracy, but Cenita convinced me we could do it!

We completed the project over two weekends.  On the first weekend I painted the entire basement in a fresh coat of semi-gloss white paint.  On the second weekend, the fun began!

Black Work Bag

Black Work Bag 2

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

When you find the perfect black purse, suitable for work and play, you've hit the jackpot.  Cenita is currently searching for said holy grail of purses and I thought I'd give her a head-start by gathering a few that I like from across the web from varying price points.  Her list of requirements included:
- must be leather
- can hold the daily schlep [water, lunch, snacks, personal items]
- straps must be long enough to wear on arm

With the exception of #6 from Zara (it's not leather, but comes with a much friendlier price tag), I think these hit the mark.

Have you found your ideal black purse for work?
