Thursday's Thirst Quencher: Basil Lemonade

This Basil Lemonade Thirst Quencher quickly transports you to your favorite vacation destination. It's light and refreshing with just the right amount of tart. Pair this seasonal drink with  chili-lime chicken and Spanish rice for a tasty, exotic meal. I opted to pull up pictures from my Thailand honeymoon and reminisce about laying on the beach.

Ingredients:
1/4 cup granulated sugar
Juice from two large lemons
1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, roughly torn
water
ice

Combine the sugar and 1/4 cup of water in a bowl and microwave for 45 seconds.  Stir until sugar is completely dissolved and set aside to cool.

Muddle the basil leaves with the lemon juice using a muddler, or the base of a wooden spoon.  This will infuse the flavors together nicely.

Add 2/3 cup of cold water and the sugar syrup, to taste.  Add ice. Stir. Enjoy!
