ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen

Salomé here!  Hubby and I finally had a chance to try ShopHouse in Dupont Circle. It was spicy and delicious.

From the creator of Chipotle, ShopHouse serves up Southeast Asian cuisine via tasty bowls or banh mi sandwiches.  For our first trip we decided to try the bowls.  A bowl begins with your choice of rice, noodles or salad topped with your choice of protein and vegetable.  To complete the bowl you select a sauce and garnish.

We tried the grilled steak over jasmine rice, and chicken and pork meatballs over chilled rice noodles.  We each had the same toppings on our bowls: spicy red curry, green papaya slaw, pickles veggies and cilantro. The steak was tender and well seasoned while the meatballs were perfectly melt-in-your-mouth light. Both bowls were amazingly delicious.  Full disclosure - the spicy red curry was HOT!  We regularly enjoy food with heat but this was on a totally different level.

We are looking forward to going back and trying more combinations [I'm thinking chicken satay with green curry, yumm!].

Roasted Tomato Soup

During the never-ending search for yummy meals that both Cenita and I can enjoy, I came across this recipe for Roasted Tomato Soup on A Cup of Jo.  I loved that the soup didn't use any cream or involve an insane amount of time to make.  The kicker is that the tomato parmesan croutons are gluten-free and so delicious!  See the adapted recipe below.

Ruffle Front Pencil Dress

I’ve had this dress in my closet for a year so I was really excited to finally get to wear it!  Since I wore it to church, I kept it modest with the accessories.

Dress: ASOS. Shoes: Charles David {here in black}. Watch: Michael Kors. Necklace: Tiffany & Co. Nails: Deborah Lippmann.

the start of aTypical Day

Realizing that there is no such thing as a "typical" day, we are sharing our sometimes intentional, often accidental, experiences in cooking, styling...and life!
