Animal Instinct

Nothing says "sassy" like a little animal print. So what better way to spruce up a plain dress than to pair it with animal print? Honestly, everything that I have on is "Cenita's vintage" {read: old} so unfortunately I don't remember where it was purchased.  However, here are links to some pretty great options for a dress, shoes, and clutch

What's your favorite animal print? Do you ever mix prints?

Thursday's Thirst Quencher: Iced Green Tea

A couple of years ago I fell in love with "Arizona Green Tea with Ginseng and Honey". I'm a "diluter" and don't like drinks that are too sugary and sweet. This drink had just the right balance of sweetness and flavor, I was hooked! I went to pick up a jug a few weeks ago but for the first time I looked at the label. I was surprised to find that it has high fructose corn syrup in it!!! I couldn't believe it.  I knew at that point that I'd just have to make my own. I'm glad I did because it came out great!

Seeing Spots

Ahhh summer time...the long sought after warmth is upon us.  When I go to work at this time of year I want to dress cool and comfortably yet remain office appropriate. Pencil skirts are my go-to item for the office, especially during the warm weather months.  This one is breezy and silky, perfect for the hot sticky days we've been having in DC lately.  Working in a conservative work environment, I threw on a cardigan to make this outfit office appropriate [and to warm me up while the a/c was blasting!].

I'd love to hear how you stay work appropriate yet comfortable during the summer.

Sail Away

Earlier this summer I attended an event at Chesapeake Beach. I knew I would be outdoors at least until nightfall so I grabbed my blazer as I was heading out the door. It was a great thing I did because although the weather was nice, the breeze from the water brought along a certain coolness. And I won't even mention the bugs and mosquitoes. It was an added bonus that the blazer gave my look a nautical feel that went perfectly with the gorgeous setting!

Thursday's Thirst Quencher: Affogato

Have you ever had Affogato?  What is it you ask?  Well, Affogato is a delightful Italian treat of gelato drizzled with espresso, heavenly! The hubby and I love this sweet treat and wanted to try making it at home.  It was so simple!

ATD Featured on Refinery29 DC

While making our daily website and blog rounds on Monday, we naturally found ourselves on Refinery 29 DC. Much to our surprise, our post about DIY Abstract Art was listed under "5 Things To Know This AM"!   We are truly flattered to be featured on such an amazing site.

Vintage Red Dress

During a trip to Charleston, SC last December I feel in love with this vintage red dress.  The size wasn't quite right so I took it to my favorite tailor in NYC.  He hiked up the waistline [the waist on the dress as purchased fell to my hips] and tailored the sides to fit.  I love the outcome!

Do you have a favorite vintage find?

Thursday's Thirst Quencher: Basil Lemonade

This Basil Lemonade Thirst Quencher quickly transports you to your favorite vacation destination. It's light and refreshing with just the right amount of tart. Pair this seasonal drink with  chili-lime chicken and Spanish rice for a tasty, exotic meal. I opted to pull up pictures from my Thailand honeymoon and reminisce about laying on the beach.

Chili-Lime Chicken and Spanish Rice

Some nights I'm totally inspired about what to make for dinner. Other nights I draw a blank. This was one of those nights. I had chicken and rice but wasn't quite sure what to do with them. I took a quick look through the pantry and decided to infuse some Spanish flavor into my existing ingredients. It came together wonderfully!

DIY Abstract Art

It hasn't been an easy process to find simple, inexpensive abstract art that flows with the color scheme of my living room.  So instead of frustrating myself further by continuing my search, I decided to try my hand at painting some art of my own!

Thursday's Thirst Quencher: Raspberry Limeade

This week's Thirst Quencher is a tart-sweet treat: Raspberry Limeade. Whether you've had your 4th of July celebration already, or whether you're waiting for the weekend this is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Black and Blue

On the way to last Wednesday's CapFABB meet-up Salomé and I decided to stop and snap a few pictures.  I know it may be a bit taboo to mix black and blue, but I couldn't help but rock this combo.

What are your thoughts on mixing black and blue?
